Calamigos Ranch Wedding Malibu at The Ranch House | Chris and Nikki

Written by Andrea Schmitt

Flowers are my thing. At all the weddings we photograph, the first thing I notice, are the floral choices that the bride makes (oh, yeah, and the groom).  Nikki’s flowers were to die for. Exotic, vibrant and in abundance, I was in awe! Purple phalaenopsis orchids, perfect dendrobium and cymbidium orchids, red striped roses just to name a few.  Her bouquet had a mix of hydrangea, roses, lilies and more. Beverly at Mr. B’s Florist is an artist!  Also stunning was the vintage look that Nicki had, and we had a lot of fun photographing the two in the outdoorsy ranch surroundings at Calamigos Ranch.  Calamigos Ranch is a beautiful wedding venue in the in the heart of Malibu Wine Country. There are several choices on this enormous property to choose your ceremony and reception location and Chris and Nikki chose my personal favorite, The Ranch House. It feels hidden and tucked away surrounded by trees, greens and a quaint waterfall.  Nikki and Chris took advantage of the surroundings with a long cocktail hour including The Peek a Booth photo booth, and delicious appetizers and drinks, and of course a swanky cigar bar for the guys.

Nikki and Chris also had their loveable dogs involved in the ceremony!  So fun! Donned with red striped roses, they were the hit of the procession!

In Chris’ culture, and an important part of the day is the offering of gifts (in this case fine jewels) from Chris’ family to Nikki, and the moment was very touching.  The family rings and jewelry were incredible (check out the ring below!) I always love learning about different cultural traditions that can be involved in the wedding ceremonies and the reasons for doing so. Of course capturing these moments is what its all about!  Congratulations Chris – “13 years years later Here Comes Your Bride!”

Malibu Rocky Oaks Wedding Photos | Cybel and Sebastian

Written By Andrea Schmitt

We were thrilled to recently photograph one of the first weddings held at the incredible Malibu Rocky Oaks Vineyard. The villa at Malibu Rocky Oaks appears to have been transported straight from Tuscany. Perched high on the hill in Kanan Canyon with vineyards gracing its surroundings, and beautiful views, the weddings at Malibu Rocky Oaks are going to book up fast!

Cybel looked stunning in her gorgeous Monique Lhuillier gown, and  Christian Louboutin shoes with hot red soles that had me green with envy.  😉 And as you can see, her beauty was matched perfectly with Sebastian’s GQ style.

The Maid of Honor Brianna, delivered one of the cutest and most original toasts I have ever heard.  It included dance moves, hilarious out of tune rapping, laughs and tears. Well done girl! Here’s a video sneak peek of that! Breanna’s MOH toast

Guests dined on Long Braised Short Ribs, Oven Roasted Sea Bass and Orecchiette artfully created by The Food Matters.

This was such a fun crowd with wine flowing, shots pounding, and great music by the Liquid Blue band and dancers.

It was a privilege to photograph Cybel and Sebastian’s wedding and experience this amazing venue. We look forward to coming back soon. But, if you do plan on having your wedding at Malibu Rocky Oaks, just be aware: There is a helicopter pad-so if someone is prone to ‘runaway bride syndrome’ or if your groom needs a quick escape…well, I can’t control that.  But I can promise to get a great photo of it!

Thanks to Lina and her team from A Stunning Affair for her smooth coordination of the day.

Behind the scenes:

This video has behind the scenes footage from our photoshoot with Amanda McCauley. This was Amanda’s first fashion photoshoot at our new 805Studios in Moorpark CA.

I had a great time photographing Amanda McCauley today. She’s an up and coming new artist with a sound likened to “Gaga meets Pink”. I’m excited to see her career develop and she worked it today!

Azul Sensatori Wedding Photos | Cassie and Joe

I just returned from another fun filled wedding at the beautiful Azul Sensatori in Puerto Morelos Mexico. Cassie and Joe welcomed me to the rehearsal night’s Beach S’more Party and it was awesome! Tables of skewered marshmallow’s, chocolate fountains, graham crackers, fresh fruit-on-a- stick, and other goodies were muy delicioso! It was great to meet all the guests after flying in that day and I could instantly tell that they had a great group of friends and family and that the wedding would be a blast.

Wedding day was beautiful. Hot and humid but that’s to be expected. They were married on the impressive Sky Deck overlooking the ocean and it’s an amazing view. When the reception came, it was another emotional father daughter dance which had the bridesmaids (and I think a few dudes) tearing up! Later, a  little thunder and lightening showed up after the cake cutting and everyone took cover to get out of the pouring rain that seemed to come out of nowhere. It is the tropics and these things do happen. But I was so impressed with everyone’s reaction. The DJ had to unplug due to the rain, but instead of everyone being bummed out, the wedding party instantly broke out into song and made a valiant effort to keep the party going for awhile longer. I took the opportunity to take them around the property at night to do a couple fun shots.

The next day was our Trash the Dress photoshoot and these are always my favorite to do. We have creative freedom to roam around, explore and just have fun shooting around the picturesque property. There are no rules and anything goes. The photoshoots usually end with Bride and Groom running in the ocean and this one was no exception. This is always a great moment and we drew a crowd to watch this one! Thanks guys for having me document your special day!
